About our school
Miltaburra Area School was created after the closure of Haslam, Smoky Bay, Mudamuckla, Nunjikompita and Wirrulla schools. The school was opened in 1984 after and extensive planning and design process that included local community and families. The school is not located in a township – the nearest town is Wirrulla some 22kms east on the Eyre Highway. Instead, Miltaburra is situated on land surrounded by the Maildaburra Cattle Stud.
At Miltaburra Area School, our purpose is to bring together educators, students, parents, and the local community to provide educational experiences that reflect our local context, and give our young people the skills, knowledge, and values to become successful, fulfilled citizens and lifelong learners.
Miltaburra Area School offers education from preschool to year 12 to children from towns and farms that stretch along the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula from south of Haslam, up to Smoky Bay and inland to Wirrulla and Nunjikompita.
We offer personalised learning opportunities that reflect our local context and our students’ interests.
Our school offers:
- individual academic support from high-quality teaching staff
- the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program
- agricultural education opportunities
- a safe, inclusive and supportive environment.
